I am sending you out like sheep among wolves

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Firstly, I wish to extend a most heartfelt “THANK YOU” to everyone who helped in any way to organise our Gala Fundraising Night last Friday 19th June, especially our Organising Committee. The overwhelming success of raising $170,000 was due entirely to the grace of God and the generosity and support of our committees, sponsors, clergy, and all who attended. OLOL Co-Cathedral will benefit greatly from these funds which will go toward paying off the existing loan against the building of the Community Youth and Pastoral Centre. We have been immensely blessed with such a faithful and committed family at OLOL. Working together, and striving for holiness together, we encourage one another with hope and strength.

In today’s Gospel of St. Matthew, the faithful are being called to prepare for adversity in the world – whether it is in the family, in the Church, or in society. Like “sheep among wolves” each vocation is equally as important as another when it comes to defending our faith and standing up for the Truth. United in the One Body of Christ through Baptism, St Paul also reminds us that it is the Spirit of God that works and speaks through each of us, and we will be guided by Him always if we persevere in prayer and are nourished by the Sacred Mysteries.

Each week, for your information, I will be inserting a small account from the latest encyclical letter of Pope Francis: Laudato si’
“The destruction of the human environment is extremely serious, not only because God has entrusted the world to us men and women, but because human life is itself a gift which must be defended from various forms of debasement. Every effort to protect and improve our world entails profound changes in lifestyles, models of production and consumption, and the established structures of power which today govern societies. Authentic human development has a moral character. It presumes full respect for the human person, but it must also be concerned for the world around us and take into account the nature of each being and of its mutual connection in an ordered system. Accordingly, our human ability to transform reality must proceed in line with God’s original gift of all that is.”

May God continue to bless you and your families, with the abundance of His generous Gifts.
